Felpham Beach and Village

Felpham is a seaside village in West Sussex, known for its timeless feel, the village centre area remaining largely unchanged across the decades. I have lived in and photographed Felpham for 30 years and still enjoy looking for a new perspective. My fine art prints of Felpham can be seen here

Felpham Beach

Felpham Beach is mainly pebbles at high tide, with larger expanses of sand being revealed as the tide drops. This is the home of the popular Felpham Sailing Club formed in 1953, still offering fantastic open sea dinghy sailing conditions for a variety of classes. They also offer a fantastic teaching program for both adults and children, more information can be found at https://felphamsailingclub.co.uk

Also on the beach are 4 hardcourt public tennis courts open all year round, and an adventure golf course in the summer season. More details of both of these are at https://isslifestyle.co.uk/sites/blakes-road-felpham/

William Blake lived in Felpham 1800-1803

Blakes Cottage, a late 17th Century thatched building in Blakes Road (called ‘Straight Road’ before Blake’s time in Felpham was home to William Blake from 1800 – 1803. His epic ‘Milton’, with the poem Jerusalem as it’s preface, was written during this period – later to be set to music into the Hymn now known as one of England’s unofficial anthem’s, and a favourite in rugby stadiums when England are playing.

Felpham Church

At the heart of Felpham Village is St Mary’s Church, a Norman church which dates back to 1100 when is replaced a Saxon church previously on the site. Details of the services and use of the adjacent St Mary’s Centre hall can be found at https://www.stmarysfelpham.org/
